Starting Off on the Right Note ♪

♪♫ You say goodbye, and I say hello, hello, hello! ♪♫ (The Beatles, anyone?!) My name is Carolyn Meyer and I am proud to introduce myself as the newest board-certified music therapist on Keynote’s stellar team. Becoming a community music therapist and getting to create new and meaningful relationships within the Twin Cities is what drew me to Keynote, and I absolutely cannot wait to tune up my guitar and hit the road!

Whether I was learning the cello in the school orchestra, playing Taylor Swift on my first guitar with friends or experiencing my favorite musicians live in concert, music has always been my outlet for expression. I loved the way music brought people together and allowed bonding to occur in a way that went far beyond words.

As time went on, I explored many different volunteer, educational and work experiences. No matter where life took me, I always found that both music and serving others were areas that truly balanced my passions and skills (although one summer I worked on a lake in St. Paul as a pontoon "dinner boat" driver- such a blast!).

My undergraduate studies actually began at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse where I was studying both therapeutic recreation and music. It wasn't until my junior year that I decided to pursue music therapy, and the rest is history! I transferred to Augsburg University where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in music therapy as well as a minor in psychology. As I dove into the research and grew my therapeutic skills, I became increasingly astounded by the impact music can have on brain functioning and overall health. My clinical experiences have led me to places such as Children’s Hospital of Minnesota, facilities for older adults and even across the pond to a camp for burn recovery in China. I am hoping to continue learning as a clinician and gain increased knowledge in areas such as music therapy within memory care, neurology, cultural equity in health care and trauma-informed practice.

Needless to say I am ready to rock and roll in utilizing my musical expertise and therapeutic skills to help any age or ability achieve the Keynote mission- unlocking their true potential!
